A very low unemployment rate- (around 3% in 2019) meaning that the majority of people in Malaysia have jobs which would benefit the economy and the citizens of Malaysia. A multicultural population- which fosters national identity, promotes cultural tolerance and modernization usually.
Weaknesses (Destabilizing-Internal)
Political corruption- Political figures forcing Malaysian citizens to pay a fee for access to basic functions, like schooling, courts, and hospitals. This fee is called a “sweetener” and if it’s not paid, citizens may not have the medical access needed, or the option to continue their academic career. This can lead to civil unrest in Malaysia. Unfair intervention during political debates- The media is primarily controlled by the government, which then lets the government interfere in some aspects during the political elections, which is corrupt, leading to the current political party remaining unchanged for long periods of time.
Gerrymandering- This ties into the other one, while Malaysia does not exactly do this, they in some sense do with the unfair intervention during political elections.
Opportunities (Stabilizing-External)
Supranation organizations (such as ASEAN, UN, and the commonwealth of Nations) theses organization offer benefits to Malaysia, such as protections and even possibly economic advantages to Malaysia.
Technological Advancements. Maladies also adopts more industries and technology. This can lead to more careers in technology. Leading to even more employment opportunities when they already have a very low unemployment rate.
Threats (Destabilizing-External)
Deforestation- Deforestation is one of their threats because of the intensity of the mining industry there is a lot of deforestation, and also endangered animals. Which is a threat to Malaysia because they could be criticized for their negative impacts to the environment while also putting themselves more towards risk. Natural Disasters- Malaysia also is very susceptible to natural disasters which puts the people and society of Malaysia at risk (notably floods and landslides.)
Overall, seeing this all, Malaysia has many weaknesses in their government, which could lead to a lot of instability in their government and political landscape. This leads me to say that while at the moment Malaysia is stable, with the increase in social media and news sources, I think that the people of Malaysia will reject their voting conditions, leading to an issue in the long term.
