A population pyramid is a way of measuring the population of a country, it divides itself so one half is males and one half is females. It typically is biggest at the bottom getting smaller as the population gets older and therefore starts to die out.
This is the population pyramid for Malaysia. Malaysia at the moment does not seem to have policies to increase or decrease TFR. However there is a policy to allow and encourage people to immigrate starting during covid-19-now Analyses: Level 1: This is the population pyramid for Malaysia. It is from 2023 and the population is 34,308,525, the policy encourages immigration Level 2: The population pyramid for Malaysia, the top is smaller than the bottom, the ratio of men to women seem to be similar. The middle of the pyramid is slightly wider than the bottom, this shows a decreasing population. Immigration policies usually encourage people who are on the younger side to immigrate, or also people who are middle aged. The policy encourages people to migrate so that "no one is left behind" they also want to reduce xenophobia against migrant and refugees. Level 3: Malaysia's TFR (total fertility rate) has dropped significantly compared to the TFR of Malaysia 60 years ago, going from almost 6.5 in 1960 to 1.8 in 2020. Therefore it makes sense that the middle of the population pyramid is greater in size than the bottom. The elder dependency ratio seems to be pretty low with a very small amount of the population being older than 70. The youth dependency ratio is higher, not unmanageable though. They probably want to increase migration because of the decreasing population. Due to this that is probably on of the underlying reasons that they encourage migration. Level 4: Malaysia does not have a population policy, however if the TFR continues to drop throughout the next years or they experience a significant drop they might begin to attempt to enforce women to have more children or encourage more immigrants to come to Malaysia (similar to their current attempts to encourage migration.) The reason for Malaysia's drop in TFR is probably similar to most other countries reasons for a drop in their TFR, that being higher encouragement in birth control, more women perusing a higher education and careers of their own and just the appeal being lost to women. Along with this COVID-19 is a good motivator to encourage people to come to Malaysia based on China and most Asian countries policies on COVID. Along with this trying to reduce xenophobia is a good effort so that immigrants can feel comfortable in Malaysia and want to have children there which will help with the decreasing Malaysian population. An increase in the population of immigrants in Malaysia will probably help expand the culture of Malaysia and introduce native Malaysians to other countries possibly even making more Malaysians want to immigrate to other places.
